What you need:

Preparatory work for woven baskets

  1. Before you can weave willow branches or rattan cane, it must be soaked for a few hours so that it becomes pliable. Soak the rods in a plastic tub full of water for at least 6 hours, preferably overnight.
  2. For the floor, first make a cross from three to five thicker branches, which must be long enough that they protrude beyond the finished floor size. Use the screwdriver to make a crack in each branch and insert the next one through it. Do the same with other branches as you like until the cross has reached the desired size.
  3. Start braiding the soil by running a willow rod alternately above and below the stakes in a circle. After each round, tap the rod towards the middle with the hammer.
  4. When your braid has reached the desired expansion in width, you need stakes as long as possible, which should form the side edges of the braid.
  5. Use the cutter to bevel sturdy pegs at the tips. Then use the screwdriver to make paths evenly distributed from the sides into the bottom of the basket and insert the pegs into the prepared recesses.

The fine work of basket weaving

  1. Now, row by row, braid the sides of the basket with willow rods and pound the braid tight after each row.
