Setting up a carport is usually not a big problem. Hardware stores usually offer complete kits that contain all the necessary materials. However, the attachment to the subsurface is particularly important.

What you need:

  • Cement mortar
  • spade
  • Guideline
  • Metal anchor

You have bought a kit for a carport and want to set it up right away. Before doing this, however, you should think about fixing it to the floor. Because of the large roof area, high wind forces can occur.

How to prepare for attachment

  1. You don't need a complete one to attach a carport foundation to build. It is sufficient if you make what are known as point foundations.
  2. You first measure the positions at which the load-bearing posts should be. Dig square holes in the ground with a spade at the positions.
  3. The holes should have a size of about 40 x 40 cm. They should be about two feet deep.
  4. After that, mix concrete from sand and cement. The mixing ratio should be 1: 4. This means that for every 4 parts of sand there is one part of cement. The mixture can be a little more humid, as part of the water is absorbed by the surrounding soil.
  5. Concrete in the post base - this is how it works

For reasons of stability, you should set the post bases in concrete. That is …

  6. If mixing concrete is too cumbersome for you, you can also buy so-called cement mortar in hardware stores. You then only need to mix this with water.

How to fix the posts of your carport

  1. You then simply pour the mixed concrete or cement mortar into the previously dug holes. The holes must be filled to the brim.
  2. Then immediately insert the metal anchors for fastening the posts into the still soft concrete. So that all anchors are in a row, it is advisable to use a guide line for alignment.
  3. After about a week, the concrete has hardened enough that you can fasten the carport posts to the anchors with screws.

You should work very carefully when fastening your carport. Otherwise it could be damaged in the next autumn storm.
