Make a topping-out wreath yourself
A topping-out wreath should of course not be missing at a topping-out ceremony. If you make it yourself, then you can design it according to your ideas.
If you make your topping-out wreath yourself, you can determine the quality of the materials, the size and the appearance of the wreath yourself.
Make the blank yourself
- Take copper or steel wire the length you need for the size of your wreath and form a ring out of it.
- Gradually wrap this wire ring with straw, which you then fix with floral wire.
- Keep wrapping layers of straw around the wreath until it is at least 5 to 7 cm in cross-section.
So it becomes a topping-out wreath
- The green for your wreath should be between 4 and 6 inches long.
- From the green, tie together small tufts that contain 2 to 4 branches (depending on the thickness).
- Now apply these bundles clockwise one after the other and overlapping on the wreath blank.
- Each tuft is fixed with floral wire.
- Remember that you have to completely wrap your topping wreath in green. Make sure you have enough branches so that it is nice and dense.
- Of course, you can also work in dried flowers or small branches with colored berries between the green.
- Once the wreath is tied, you can either wrap it with ribbons or tie long, fluttering ribbons around the wreath.
- To be able to hang up the topping-out wreath, you now have to tie 4 solid cords to the wreath. The ribbons should be knotted well on each quarter so that the wreath does not hang crooked later.
- Now tie the straps at the end with a tight knot and nothing stands in the way of attaching the topping-out wreath you made yourself.
