When a fixed-term employment contract expires

Register personally as unemployed

  • You can register as unemployed at the earliest three months before the end of your employment contract, cf. § 141 para. 1 sentence 2 SGB III.
  • At the latest, you have to be on the first day of the unemployment report to the employment agency. However, if this day falls on a public holiday or Sunday and the employment agency is closed, a report on the next day is sufficient to meet the deadline, cf. § 141 para. 2 SGB III.
