How to make shell necklaces yourself
Shells are not only suitable for decorating, they are also ideal for handicrafts, for example jewelry. The large variety of sizes and shapes of the shells makes it possible for you to create very individual pieces of jewelery that you will surely be envied for.
- First you have to work the shells. This means that you must first drill a hole in each individual mussel using a drill so that you can thread the mussels later. Depending on the type of shell, you can also drill a hole on both ends of the shell, then you can later pull the decorative thread through both holes and thus form an almost uniform row of shells.
- Then have all the other utensils ready. Instead of the black decorative ribbon, you can also opt for a transparent nylon cord or decorative wire.
- The next step is to make a light knot at the end of the string. This should be chosen in a length that you can later slip the chain over your head without untying it.
- Now start with five pearls each, followed by a shell and then another five pearls. Continue the sequence until you have reached about the middle of the chain. You can easily check this by holding both ends of the string together and sliding it over your head. If the band is sufficient and you are roughly in the middle of the chain, insert a slightly larger shell as a kind of pendant in the shell pearl row.
- Then continue in the same order to the end of the chain - five pearls, a shell, five pearls, and so on.
- When you have reached the end, knot both ends of the jewelry cord very tightly so that the knot cannot loosen by itself when you wear the chain. And then your piece of jewelery is already ready.
