Store cut onions

Unless you know from the start that you only need half an onion, cut the onion in half first. The required half is only peeled afterwards.

  • You can use the remaining half in the refrigerator store. A piece of paper wipe on the interface will keep the onion from drying out. If you also pack the half onion in an airtight plastic box, it will last for up to a week.
  • If you want to use the onion, peel it and cut off the slightly dried-on cut. You now have to be careful when cutting, as the individual onion skins no longer adhere so well to each other. Dicing is more of a challenge than fresh onions.

Keep diced onions

  • It is best to use finely chopped onions within a few hours. Otherwise the interfaces will dry out and the onions will taste soapy. However, they are still suitable for frying or cooking even after a long time.
  • Put the onions in an airtight plastic jar. The size of the can should be exactly the same as the amount of onions you plan to store. If the can is too large, too much air comes to the interfaces.
  • Store cheese - this way it stays fresh for a long time

When you buy cheese at the cheese counter, you naturally also want it to be fresh for a long time ...

  • You can keep the cut onions in the refrigerator for a day or two. If the onions are to be stored longer, put them in the freezer immediately after cutting. The flatter the container for the onions, the faster they will freeze through. Then they can lose less flavor.
  • You should not freeze onions in rings, as they will hardly be used for this shape. Diced onions are better for frying.
