With filling machines you can connect rain gutters to the rain collector with a hose. This also works with rain barrels and cisterns.

What you need:

  • Automatic filling machines
  • Rain collector
  • hose

Connect rain gutters to a hose

  • You cannot route the water from the downspout of rain gutters into a hose by simply inserting the hose into a hole in the downspout. But you have the following option.
  • Insert an automatic filler in the downpipe of rain gutters. The water that falls down in the downpipe from the rain gutters is directed over a sieve and from there into a gutter that sits inside the machine. This is how the water is dammed.
  • A hose connection is connected to this mini reservoir, which is formed by the water from the rain gutters. You can connect a hose to the outside of the filling machine and pass the water on from there.

Hose connection on the rain collector

  • Usually only a short piece of hose is used, which is routed horizontally from the hose connection of the filling machine through the wall of a rain collector. So the rain collector can never overflow, because when the water masses from the rain gutters fills the barrel up to the height of the filling machine the resulting counter pressure ensures that the channel in the filling machine overflows and the water is directed into the sewer system will.
  • According to the principle of communicating tubes, you can also use another barrel at the same height or, better, a little deeper Connect a hose to the first barrel and so several barrels at once with the water from the rain gutters fill up. In this way you can connect as many barrels as you want.
  • Use a cistern pump correctly - this is how it works

When using the cistern pump, ensure that it is stable and fasten ...

  • You can also route the hose from the filling machine to the rain collector over a longer distance, but it must never be higher than the outlet from the machine. In order for the overflow protection to work, the upper edge of all connected drums must be above the automatic filling connection. This is the only way to ensure that the water from the rain gutters can never spill over the barrels.
  • With this system you can lead water through a hose to a cistern in order to collect the water from the rain gutters. However, there is no overflow protection here, unless the cistern is at the same level as the filling machine.
