  • a script
  • a 'director'
  • Time and patience
  • an undisturbed rehearsal room
  • beverages

Performing plays takes some preparation, even if they are short plays with few scenes. With these tips, the preparations for the performance will be successful and you and your ensemble can safely go on stage.

Prepare short plays professionally

  • The most important thing is that you and your fellow campaigners feel like performing a play and don't lose it in the course of rehearsals. So set yourself and your ensemble clear, but achievable goals. Whether it's short or long, don't expect to be able to rehearse an entire play in one day.
  • Make sure that you have an undisturbed space available in order to be able to study the plays or scenes in peace.
  • Also, make sure you have enough time to avoid stress in the end.
  • Provide drinks in advance to keep the actors happy and allow for sufficient breaks (toilet and / or smoking).

  • You should always have a script available where the texts and actions of all actors are noted. It is best if you appoint a director who can hold the script in his hands during the play and rehearsals, and who can give directions and tips. In this case, the 'director' also acts as a prompter.
  • Before rehearsing the play, give the actors sufficient time to prepare for the text. Even with short pieces, it can happen that someone has text problems and needs a little longer to memorize.
  • When it comes to rehearsing, it is important that you (or the director) does not treat the actors too strictly (resp. bypasses). The play should first and foremost be fun and not be associated with coercion and embarrassment.
  • Rehearse as much as you can, starting with the first scene. Repeat scenes that did not work properly - but not too often. Here, too, desire and concentration can otherwise be lost.
