The technical term for the hide wolf is Intertrigo, which means “rubbed sore” in German. “Running a wolf” means nothing else than running sore. It is usually referred to when the inner thighs are chafed by friction after jogging or hiking. Basically, the skin wolf can occur wherever skin surfaces rub against each other or clothing against the skin scrubs.

This is how you can take precautions while running

  • Make sure that your clothing is made of a breathable material. Synthetic materials such as nylon tend to cause sores.
  • Pull tight cycling shorts under your clothing when running. Pants that are padded on the inside of the legs can also prevent you from running into a wolf.
  • Cream the vulnerable areas of skin with petroleum jelly or milking fat beforehand.
  • Another area that is often affected is the nipple. This is where it can help if you have one band Aid glue over the nipples. This prevents direct friction through the T-shirt.
  • Have the wolf - the saying simply explained

Once you've run the hunt, it can be uncomfortable and painful. But …

  • It is important that you wear suitable shoes when running. Otherwise painful friction can occur here as well.
  • Since moisture and sweat can also promote the skin wolf, good personal hygiene is very important. In addition, you should always dry yourself off after showering.

However, if it is too late for these preventive measures and you have already run into a wolf, the following advice can provide relief.

If the "wolf" got you

  • Put chamomile compresses on the affected areas of skin or make yourself Envelopes made from tea tree oil, which you apply three to four times a day.
  • Soaps with aloe vera have a calming effect on the skin.
  • Otherwise, keep the affected areas dry and clean. To dry out, use a compress that you place between the two inflamed areas of the skin and change it regularly.
  • If you have walked the wolf in the anal or genital area, Sitz baths with healing clay will help.
  • Baby powder or something similar is often recommended. However, you should make sure that the area does not get wet and the powder starts to clump. Because that could backfire and make the whole thing worse.
  • Even if the inflamed areas itch, don't scratch!
  • If the inflammation does not go away or worsens, see a dermatologist. Especially when the skin wolf appears in a skin fold, it can also lead to a fungal attack.

Derivation from "run a wolf"

  • "Running a wolf" was derived from the skin wolf, the "lupus erythematosus". This is an autoimmune disease that belongs to the group of so-called collagenoses (autoimmune diseases connective tissue and blood vessels). "Lupus" is Greek and means "wolf".
  • Because of the symptoms - lesions of the skin that are accompanied by redness - doctors of the past compared these wounds to wolf bites. Since the symptoms of sore skin areas are very similar to bites, the "wolf" of "lupus" has become so natural.
  • Thanks to modern medicine, this disease is now well treatable, so that actually only athletes walk a wolf.
