Use boiler pressure impregnated wood correctly as fence posts in the garden
Boiler pressure impregnated wood is ideal for fence posts or all other wooden structures outdoors. However, there are a few things you need to consider when processing.
Wood is a natural building material, but unfortunately it is destroyed over time by penetrating moisture, fungus formation and bacterial decomposition. Boiler pressure impregnated wood is, however, permanently protected against the ingress of moisture. As a result, it cannot be broken down by fungi or bacteria.
Outside, you should only use pressure impregnated wood
- If you need new fence posts, you should only use pressure impregnated wood. This is particularly suitable for outdoors.
- You can process pressure impregnated wood in the same way as untreated wood. However, sawing and drilling damage the protective layer. Therefore, you must immediately paint such areas with wood stain.
- Since pressure impregnated wood does not absorb moisture, you can simply dig or drive the fence posts into the ground. There is no rotting process.
- The pressure impregnation does not protect against damage caused by UV radiation. Therefore, you have to paint the posts with the darkest possible wood protection glaze. You should wait at least 6 weeks before applying the first coat.
- The salty solution used for impregnation does not always go well with wood preservatives. After 6 weeks, however, excess material is washed out of the wood by the weather. Then there are no more problems with the wood protection glaze.
- Boiler pressure impregnated wood can also be set in concrete without any problems. Even damp concrete cannot damage the post.
