Streusel - the basic recipe

It is best to start your streusel experiments on a large baking sheet Apple Cake at.

  1. The butter for the crumble should be soft, but not runny if possible. For example, place the bowl with the butter on the heater or briefly heat the butter (15 seconds) in the microwave.
  2. Now add the sugar and flour.
  3. Quickly knead the ingredients into small, more crumbly or large, more soft crumbles. You can do this by hand (works fine) or with the thick dough hook of an electric mixer. Alternatively, you can quickly form a kneading dough from the ingredients and then pluck the crumble from this dumpling onto the cake more than sprinkle it.
  4. Spread the streusel over the apple topping and bake the cake as usual.
  5. Make sprinkles - this is how you make them

Baking is fun and is not only a new cake recipe for festivities ...

For a springform pan you need about 2/3 the amount of ingredients, i.e. 100 g butter, 100 g sugar and a good 125 g flour. The butter is the "glue" of the crumble, eggs won't get in, otherwise they won't get crispy during baking. If, contrary to expectations, the flour binds more butter, you can add a teaspoon of oil to the crumble. This will make the crumble dough softer. Incidentally, streusel adhere better to the bare one

cake- respectively. Yeast dough, if you brush it lightly with a little egg yolk beforehand.

Modify the basic recipe for your cake

This basic recipe can be varied in a variety of ways and is delicious. The sprinkles are simply an ideal topping for (almost) every cake.

  • You can make nut crumbles by replacing half of the flour with finely ground hazelnuts or almonds. Or you can add some chopped walnuts to the basic recipe. This gives you a particularly fine nut taste and is nice and crispy.
  • For coconut crumble, replace half of the flour with coconut flakes. You can also replace some of the butter with some (fatty) coconut milk. These crumbles will be more crumbly.
  • "Liquid" crumbles are created when you add 250 g of melted (!) Butter, which is a bit brown may have assumed with 150 g sugar, 150 g flour, 1 packet of vanilla sugar and 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon mixed. These special sprinkles are then served with a tablespoon dough painted and baked to form a closed sprinkle top.
  • Spices are of course also allowed: you can add cinnamon powder, cardamom powder, a little clove and ground nutmeg to the crumble as you like. Or you can imitate a Christmas taste with gingerbread spice.
