Even if you don't own a garden, you definitely want to sit outside in the summer, sheltered from the sun. If you own a balcony, there's a great way to make that a reality here. Creating shading for your balcony is not difficult at all.

Attach an awning to the balcony.

What you need:

  • 2 awnings
  • 1 wooden post 200x10x10 cm
  • 5 metal hooks

Since balconies are in many cases not very large, it is a little difficult to get shade on them, for example with a parasol. A parasol is usually in the way when a table and chairs are to be placed. An alternative for shading the balcony is often sought here. With awning you even create more shade than with a normal parasol and the assembly is also quite easy.

Shading on the balcony - the preparations

  • You need two awnings to shade your balcony.
  • To determine the size, measure the width of your balcony.
  • Then mark 4 points where the hooks will be attached later. The distances should be the same. Now measure the distances between 2 hooks. This is now the width for your two shade sails.
  • Now place the wooden post in the middle of the balcony parapet.
  • Fasten the sun sails correctly - this is how it works with a trapezoidal sail

Especially in summer everyone seeks protection from the blazing sun. Here you have ...

  • Now measure the length between the outer left hook to the middle of the wooden beam. Then the length from the next hook also to the middle of the wooden post. You have now determined the size for the first awning. You then measure the size for the second awning in the same way.
  • Now add another 5 cm to the length of the sails on the house side and your measurements are ready.
  • Have the two sails manufactured by an awning company and order that an eyelet with a diameter of 2 cm is attached to each sail at the corners of the house side will.

Mount the shading

  1. To shade your balcony, drill the marked holes in the wall of the house and insert a dowel in each case. Then screw in the hooks.
  2. Now take the wooden post and mount it on your balcony parapet.
  3. Then screw in a hook exactly in the middle at the top end.
  4. Now you can hang both sun sails on the house wall and lead them to the wooden post, where they are also hung.
