Make instruments yourself

In order to be able to make music, you don't necessarily need a purchased instrument. You can build your own instruments at any time.

• You can use "waste" to make instruments yourself. For example, old light bulbs can be used to make rattles (do not use energy-saving lamps that contain mercury).
• Recycling of disposable products: You can make a plaited instrument out of old detergent boxes. It takes little skill and patience before you can play something on the instrument.
• With self-made instruments that you have tinkered, you can spread a lot of fun and joy, even if these cannot be played as smoothly and professionally as purchased instruments.

How to make a plucked instrument yourself

Before you can start making the musical instrument, you should put a pad on the table and, if necessary, put on old clothes.

1. You put the lid of the shoe box in front of you on the mat and determine the center of the box. Pierce the center with a pair of compasses and create a circle with a radius of about three centimeters. Cut out this circle.

2. Now you can be artistic by painting your shoebox with poster paint. Your creativity knows no limits. You can apply any pattern or motif to the cardboard.
3. You can paint the inside of the box with a light color and where the hole in the lid is, you can create a motif. This motif is visible later when the lid is closed.
4. You leave the Colours dry well from the lid and the box.
5. For the lid you also need sample bag clips, they look attractive and help you to attach the wire.
6. The wire should be stretched across the hole, as is common with plucked instruments. You take your sample bag clips and make a slit about two inches from the edge of the lid so that the sample bag clips fit inside. There should be four lengthways, as well as on the opposite side.
7. You turn the box over and bend the ends of the sample bag clips. You put the lid on the box, previously you put glue on the edge of the box so that you can glue the box to the lid.
8. Now take thick jacket wire and stretch it around the sample bag clamps. At the beginning and end you have to twist the wire several times around the sample bag clamps so that it holds.
