Laying natural stone slabs for a round garden seat

The laying of natural stone slabs is best done on a solid surface. So if you want to lay these in your garden, it would be good if you pour a concrete floor slab beforehand. This procedure is a bit more expensive, but the plates will also have a firm hold afterwards.

Before laying the natural stone slabs

The preparatory work for laying the natural stone slabs is such that you measure the area in your garden where you want to create a round seat. Then a concrete slab is poured and then the stones are laid in a bed of mortar on the concrete slab. So be prepared for several days of hard work.

  1. When you've found the right spot in your garden for your round seat, you should trace the perimeter with spray paint. You should then use a mini excavator to remove the field 150 cm deep. Then gravel is filled up to 130 cm and compacted with a vibrating plate.
  2. You should try to build a small slope so that rainwater then drains off and does not stand on your slabs and form puddles.
  3. Then you should put in small steel mats and put a boarding around the excavated field. You need the steel mats as reinforcement for the concrete floor slab, they give it a higher compressive strength. The formwork is attached to the side with formwork panels to give the floor slab a regular shape.
  4. So if you pour the concrete floor slab before laying the natural stone slabs, you should get one Put helpers to one side who, while you are making the precast concrete, distribute it evenly and withdraws.

The floor covering is placed in the mortar bed

  1. Now that you have poured the concrete floor slab and after 2 days the casing has been removed, you can start laying the natural stone slabs. First, take all the tiles that you want to lay and clean them thoroughly. That means, take a bucket of water and a scrubbing brush and scrub the stone slabs.
  2. Then you can fill a small area with self-made mortar and insert the panels. Press the plates into the approximately 8 cm thick bed of mortar. The mortar should then completely surround the panels. This is how you then lay one panel next to the other.
  3. Measure with a spirit level and, if necessary, adjust the natural stones with a rubber mallet. However, think about your gradient. When the last slab has been laid, you should wait at least 24 hours before you can start building the patio on the natural stone slabs.

If a mini excavator is too expensive for you, you can also excavate with a pick and shovel.
