The activity as a contract soldier is limited to a maximum of 20 years and in exceptional cases 25 years. Then a new job has to be found. But even if you only worked for the German Armed Forces for two or four years, you may have problems looking for a job afterwards.

Return to work after a short military service

If you only worked for a short time in the armed forces, you should prepare for your return to work at an early stage.

  • In doing so, you can fall back on a profession that you have learned beforehand or as part of your service. Because you often have the opportunity to acquire professional qualifications while you are still in service. These forms of further training are already offered with a view to a later job (e. B. Because there are also certain specializations that play a role within the soldier's activity, for example in the supply of the troops (materials management, repairs, catering).   • It can look something like that in your curriculum vitae do not first emphasize the term “Bundeswehr” or “soldier”, but rather put civilian activity in the foreground. Re-entry aids for regular soldiers after the Bundeswehr

Regular soldiers sometimes not only work for a few months in the Bundeswehr, but for many years, and this long period of time makes it particularly difficult to return to the previous profession here afterwards to connect.

  • In this case, the Vocational Promotion Service (BFD) can help you get back into the job. This provides funding opportunities and funds for soldiers. If you have been a soldier for at least 8 years, then you can take advantage of certain training periods, for which you will also be partially released from service.
  • The BFD supports costs of up to EUR 8,500. Internships are also organized here, which you will still be doing in companies during your time with the German Armed Forces complete and thus create an integration into working life for the time after the military can.
  • In order to discuss suitable options, soldiers can contact the BFD advisors and clarify individual options for further training.
