Basic information about the Husqvarna 162

The Husqvarna 162 is a very robust and slowly rotating chainsaw. Engine damage is not to be expected with the model.

  • Although it is a very old model, you can still get all the spare parts for the saw from specialist retailers. Many parts of the 266 and 61 also fit, these can usually be obtained more cheaply. Just look carefully to see which parts fit. Pay attention to suitable threads for parts that are screwed on.
  • Since the saw was developed at a time when organic oils were unknown, the model can hardly handle them. However, since organic oil has been used more and more in recent years, your saw is probably clogged with the resinous oil.
  • Do not disassemble the chainsaw motor if you do not have to. Thoroughly clean the oil pump and engine. In addition to special products, diesel oil can be used to dissolve the resinified oil. Use it to wash out the tank and pump. If the pump is very gummy, you will have to disassemble it.
  • Filters, oil and fuel lines should not be cleaned, but replaced. There is so much gummy oil in the lines. stuck fuel that it makes no sense to clean it. You should buy the saw a new filter anyway.

Maintenance of the chainsaw

First, think about where you are going to clean the Husqvarna 162. Large amounts of dirty water and oil will be produced during cleaning, and neither of these should simply go into the wastewater. Ideally, you work in a workshop or at a gas station.

  1. Spray the chain saw from the outside with a conventional engine cleaner and remove it as instructed.
  2. Now loosen the lines. Open the carburetor and the oil pump. Do not use force. Loosen screws with penetrating oil.
  3. Wash the carburetor and oil pump with diesel oil until all deposits are removed. If necessary, replace the carburetor membrane. When working, make sure that no water gets inside the motor.
  4. Renew the spark plug and then put everything back together. Install the new lines and a new fuel filter.

Your Husqvarna 162 should now run again without any problems.
