Characteristics of the individual climatic zones

Different climatic zones mean different habitats for flora and fauna.

• Since the climatic conditions of the earth are not the same everywhere, it is divided into climatic zones that extend around the globe from east to west. If the zones at the north and south poles are circular, those in between extend in a belt-shaped manner across the globe. They are divided into tropics, subtropics, temperate zone, subpolar zone and polar regions.
• More than a third of the world's population lives in the temperate zone, which is also known as temperate latitudes. The temperate latitudes include Western and Central Europe, Central Asia and the central part North America, also in the southern hemisphere the southernmost part of South America, Tasmania and a part New Zealand.

Animals in the temperate latitudes

The vegetation of the temperate climate zone is strongly characterized by coniferous, mixed and deciduous forests. These are habitat for fewer animals than the tropical rainforests, for example, but the forests of the temperate latitudes are also home to a large number of animals. If you had to list all the animals that live in the temperate zone, you would be busy for a long time.

• Where which animals live depends not only on the climate, but also on other conditions.
