  • In addition, you should think about the patches of earth in your garden where you would like to set up your trellis before building. This is particularly important for the plants, because too much sunlight or too little could damage your roses in the long term.
  • You should also choose a place that is protected from strong storms, as these can destroy your self-construction sooner or later.

If your own house wall appears a bit too dreary and gray or you want to open the garden a bit ...

  1. Ask your hardware store for advice on the wood you want to use for your trellis and have it cut to size on site.
  2. Now lay the 7 m high wooden slats vertically in front of you at a distance of one meter from each other.
  3. Measure the distances carefully so that the wooden beams, which you will then mount across, also fit. Also make sure that all bars are at the same height.
  4. Now take the shorter bars. Now distribute these on the vertically lying wooden beams so that you then get a checkerboard pattern.
  5. By mounting the 3 m long wooden beams horizontally, evenly spaced, from top to bottom, you will get small squares.
  6. First lay out everything before you start fixing in order to be able to repair or repair possible errors in the construction without damage.
  7. If you have everything in front of you, you can now start fastening with a hammer and the correspondingly long nails.
  8. Here you should always work your way from one crossbar to the other so that you don't have anything afterwards slipped, and your vertically aligned wooden beams are also attached at the intended distance.
  9. Always work your way from the outside in and nail the crossbeams to the longitudinal beams at the point where they touch.
  10. With a glaze for the wood, you can seal your finished trellis if necessary and you can now plant your roses so that they can grow up on the trellis.

Fine-tuning to protect the trellis

  • In order to have something of your trellis in the long term and it is just as beautiful to look at as your roses, it is worth using high-quality materials.
  • In the case of wooden slats, it is always advisable to cover them with a wood glaze. You can get these in every hardware store and your wood is thus protected from moisture and can no longer swell.
  • Apply a new layer at regular intervals of no more than two years and your trellis will shine in new splendor.

All in all, it is definitely worth trying it out for yourself, because not only your roses will thank you. Have fun and, above all, success.
