Provence style plants

  • If you look around the net, there seems to be only one plant in Provence, the lavender. Lavender is certainly one of them, but if it doesn't thrive in the garden because the climate is too humid, too cold, or the soil is not poor enough, you will largely have to do without it. Look for blue or purple flowering plants in your area. The chicory fits at least in terms of color.
  • Make do with pots or one Herb spiral, because in these buildings you can find many Mediterranean Herbs that would otherwise not grow in cool regions. Plant the spiral and pots generously with herbs from Provence, i.e. rosemary, oregano, thyme, savory and marjoram. You can also put the lavender there.
  • Olive trees, bay leaves and citrus plants are also typical of the southern vegetation. If you don't want artificial dummies in your garden but these plants won't thrive on you, try the willow-leaved one pear and the Portuguese cherry laurel.
  • You should check out a local garden market for native plants that look similar to those found in Provence. Then you will enjoy your garden and not get annoyed that the plants are not thriving.

Establishment of the garden

  • Limit yourself to simple heavy wooden furniture or metal furniture. These can look a little weathered. Hollywood swings, plastic loungers and the like are a style break.
  • Create and plant a herb snail

  • The planters should be made of terracotta or look something like that. Colorful glazed ceramics are also very beautiful and match the southern flair of the garden.
  • Much of what is touted as the Provence style in local latitudes is nothing more than ornamentation that is provided with images that show this landscape. You want to recreate this landscape in your garden, not present it on pots or bowls. So refrain from this type of jewelry for the garden. Marble statues or white fountains are suitable decorations.
