Calculator: calculate fractions using different methods
Calculating fractions with the pocket calculator is a bit complicated, but with a little practice you will soon be able to solve any fraction calculation task with the pocket calculator.
What you need:
- Calculation rules
Broken numbers and the calculator
- Many calculator can only compute fractions by putting them in Decimal numbers convert. You need to have the most important mathematical laws in mind. The exercises 2 3/4 + 5 1/9 = 7 31/36 and 2 3/4 x 5 1/9 = 14 1/18 serve as an example.
- Keep in mind that 2 3/4 + 5 1/9 means nothing more than 2 + 3/4 + 5 + 1/9, since the calculator does the If you follow the rule point before line, you only have to type in the problem as it stands, i.e. 2 + 3: 4 + 5 + 1: 9 =. Of course, the result 7.861111111111 reveals that you used the calculator to calculate.
- For the task 2 3/4 x 5 1/9 it looks like that the correct calculation (2 + 3/4) x (5 + 1/9) is only possible with brackets, because 2 + 3/4 x 5 + 1/9 would mean that 3/4 is multiplied by 5 and 2 and 1/9 are added to the result, you get 5.861111111, which is unfortunately wrong is. You have to type in correctly "(2 + 3: 4) x (5 + 1: 9) =". So you get 14.0555555, the correct result. Instead of the first bracket, you can also press "=" after the 4 to call up an intermediate result and continue calculating with it. But that only works with the first bracket.
- As a rule, you can remember that you do not need to put + and - in brackets with line calculations, but when you do point calculations you have to use brackets around the fraction.
Fractions and the calculator's A B / C key
- If your calculator has the A B / C key, you can do whatever you want with the calculator Calculate fraction operations and get the result either as a mixed fraction, as an improper fraction or as a decimal fraction. These pocket calculators know fractions.
- For exercise 2 3/4 + 5 1/9, type in: "2 A B / C 3 A B / C 4 + 5 A B / C 1 A B / C 9 =". The result is "7 _ 31 _ | 36" on the calculator display, which means nothing other than 7 31/36. Now press the INV key and A B / C, the display shows the improper fraction "283_ | 36", and if you tap A B / C again, the result appears as a decimal number.
- Familiarize yourself with these Functions by simply doing the math you know the result of, for example 1 1/4 + 1 1/2 = 2 3/4.
