Fold an easy origami yourself

Artistic origami models with square paper

Craft Use folding instructions to create animals, paper airplanes, ships and other shapes from a square of paper. Learn to fold artistic objects and use an easy one as a beginner origami. The instructions vary according to the level of difficulty of the models, but are easy to learn.

• If you are making an origami, use a square of paper measuring 15 by 15 centimeters. You also get other sizes like 20 by 20 centimeters.
• You have the choice between origami paper, printing paper, elephant skin, wrapping paper or napkins. As a beginner, it is best to use printing or origami paper.

• There are different types of origami paper Colors. The classic origami paper is colored on one side, the back is white. You can also get colored paper on both sides in stores, sometimes with patterns.

Fold a butterfly for beginners

The butterfly is an easy origami. You can choose different colors or patterns. Your butterfly will be particularly artistic if you choose paper with patterns.

1. Put the square paper on the table. The colored side faces down.
2. Fold a horizontal line in the middle. Make sure the corners line up. Open the paper and repeat the step with a vertical fold. The sheet is open in front of you. You see a cross.
3. Fold the diagonal lines. Put tip on tip. Open the paper after each fold. There are fold lines on the paper.
4. Take an outer tip and fold it to the center line. Don't open those folds. Repeat the process until all four corners are in the center.
5. In the next step, fold the four corners that result from step four to the middle.
6. Are all corners folded in the middle? Open your paper completely so that it is in front of you in its original size. Many lines were created by the folding. Use the fold lines as a guide.
7. At the first and third fold line, fold the paper inwards.
8. Open the upper end by folding the paper outwards at the second slanted fold. Do this step on the other side as well. If the leaf rises, then press it down flat.
9. Repeat step eight on the other side.
10. Fold your paper in half so the top is open. Your character now resembles a ship. Lay your paper face down in front of you.
11. Fold the outer tip down. Use the diagonal line in the middle of the figure as a guide. Gently lift your paper to crease the center point. Repeat the instructions on the opposite side.
12. Fold your figure in half and place it with the top point in front of you.
13. Fold the top tip outwards and inwards a little. This creates a visible crease.
14. Hold the created crease with two fingers and open your origami butterfly by sweeping the wings left and right.

Making a popular easy origami animal - the crane

For the crane, choose colored paper. If you make several cranes, use different colors to get colorful origami. Set highlights by working with sample paper (see image).

1. Put the square paper in front of you. The printed side faces down.
2. Fold the sheet in half and open it again. Repeat this process with the opposite side. You fold at right angles. If you open up your folds you will see lines crossing each other.
3. Take your sheet and fold it crosswise. Make sure one tip is on top of the other tip. Open the sheet and repeat this process with the other side.
4. Turn your paper over so the white side is showing and a tip is facing you.
5. Press in the center of the sheet and the sheet will curl up.
6. Take the right and left tips and fold them down. Both corners are on the lower tip. Press the top part down so that the corners are on top of each other. The lower part is open. You have created four wings with the folds.
7. Take the first right edge and fold it to the middle. Repeat this step with the left side. The figure is reminiscent of a dragon with two folded wings.
8. Fold the upper part of the figure backwards. Check the corner edges to make sure your creases are flush.
9. Open the wings (see step seven) again. Take the bottom tip and gently pull it up. Her figure resembles a ship. Push the raised part down. This is how a rhombus is formed.
10. Turn your figure over and repeat steps seven through nine.
11. Lay your origami figure in front of you, open side down. Fold the right and left flaps of the open side to the center edge.
12. Turn your figure over and repeat step eleven on the other side.
13. Bend the wings of your figure diagonally upwards and then open them again.
14. Open the insides of the wings and slide them outwards. Folding it over will create a break on the outside of your origami.
15. Fold the top wings of the figure down until they stop. On either side (right or left), crease the narrow crease once at the top end. With this kink you create the head of the crane.
