Here's how to mirror an image with Paint

  1. Start Paint via Start - Programs - Accessories - Paint.
  2. Click on "File - Open". Navigate to the folder where you saved your file. Open the file by clicking on "Open". If you have opened the file the last time you worked with Paint, you will also find it in the "File" menu in the lower half of the opened menu.
  3. Select "Image - Rotate and Flip" from the menu. The shortcut is Ctrl-D.
  4. Decide how you want to mirror the image. If you want to swap right and left in the picture, select "Flip horizontally".
  5. If you want to swap the top and bottom, use "Flip vertically".
  6. Insert a photo into a picture - this is how it works

With the image processing software "Paint" available under Windows you can quickly ...

  7. You can rotate the image using "Rotate at an angle from". Paint rotates clockwise. 90 degrees means that the top edge is turned to the right so that the image comes to rest on the originally right edge; 180 degrees turn it upside down and 270 degrees cause the top edge to be turned to the left, i.e. the image comes to rest on the left edge.
  8. Save your file, preferably under a new name, so that the original is retained. It is not possible to enter the angle manually.
  9. Since Paint doesn't work with layers, it always rotates the entire image.
  10. However, you can use the selection tool (the box with the dotted line) to make a selection and only mirror that selection.
  11. If you are not satisfied with the result, you can undo the rotation at any time using "Edit - Undo" or the key combination Ctrl-Z.

You should keep this in mind when mirroring

  • Avoid pictures to reflect, for example, technical devices or their inner workings, because that leads to misunderstandings for the viewer.
  • It makes sense to mirror a photo in which the person is looking in the wrong direction. If you would like to place such a photo in a flyer, you should not look to the left if possible, because a viewer associates this with a backward direction, the past.
  • You should also make sure that text contained in the image is not mirrored and thus illegible, unless this is intended.

As you can see, mirroring an image in Paint is a breeze.
