How to cook artichokes in a pressure cooker

  • Before you can cook the artichokes in the steamer, cut the stem just below them. Remove the lower leaves that are too hard. Shorten the remaining leaves by about two centimeters. You pull out the white threads in the middle because they don't taste good. Wash the artichokes thoroughly under cold running water. Otherwise they will discolour, rub the cut areas with lemon wedges.
  • Boil plenty of salted water with plenty of lemon juice in the steamer. Then put your artichokes in. To spice up the taste, you can also cook French herbs. Put the artichokes upright in the boiling one water and close the pressure cooker. The artichokes are ready after ten to twenty minutes at the latest. In a normal saucepan, they take 30 - 40 minutes. You can easily tell when they're done when the leaves are easy to pluck out. Then drain them by turning them with the tips of the leaves facing down. It's easy with a sieve.

  • You count one artichoke per person. This is an ideal starter. The cooked artichokes should be eaten immediately. To do this, one tears out each leaf individually, dips the lower part of the leaf into a sauce and zelt out the pulp with the teeth. Hollandaise sauce, brown butter or mayonnaise are ideal for this, and a homemade herb dip tastes great with it.
