More and more students are dependent on part-time jobs to earn their money and to secure their livelihood during their studies. However, if you accept several 400-euro jobs, you have to adhere to some restrictions. It can therefore be more worthwhile to combine a job subject to social insurance with a mini-job.
Arrange two 400 euro jobs at the same time
In principle, every student, every housewife and every employee can take on one or more mini-activities at the same time. So it is possible to earn 450 euros on the side without having to pay social security contributions. The term 400 euro job is also often used, but the upper earnings limit has been 450 euros since 2013.
- Have you a Mini job and you also accept a second one, you must inform both employers of this. This is very important, as both minor activities are only exempt from social security contributions if you do not earn more than 450 euros in total. If you earn more than this limit, one of the two employment relationships becomes subject to social security contributions. For your payroll, it is very important that employers know about your other sideline jobs and can take them into account.
- You can have as many mini-activities as you want. All you have to do is take into account the maximum earnings limit. If the earnings are above the upper limit, the second job is no longer a mini job, but falls into the sliding zone. In the sliding zone, social security contributions are to be paid. However, students do not pay in the sliding zone steer. The decisive factor is the student status. Everyone who works a maximum of 20 hours a week during the lecture period has it. In the lecture-free period, i.e. during the semester break, in the evenings and on weekends, you can also work more.
