- This regulates certain access rights / authorizations to a communication system. This can be a university, a company or a private network. A user account exists wherever a log-in is required.
Look carefully when registering
- Caution is advised, however, because not all access or usage accounts are free. Some of them can only be used to a limited extent free of charge. Registration sometimes enables test access. Only a further payment ensures complete activation and full use.
- In some cases, the online access fees are billed to the account, as accesses can be logged and evaluated. The user must have given his consent in this regard as part of a contractual relationship.
- There are also internet scammers who build certain traps within a registry. Sometimes an overlooked box with a tick is enough to unexpectedly and unintentionally receive an invoice. It is always advisable to take a closer look when registering and disclosing personal data.

What is a game account in legal terms?
A Games-Account is the result of registration on an online platform. Many providers of larger computer games now require this for newer products. The player must create a user account if he wants to access the game stored on the software.
- What is the legal nature of such an account? Some game providers separate software acquisition and right of use, contrary to case law. By viewing the user account as a separate user agreement, you are gaining some unjustified advantages. Extra terms and conditions may apply or the provider's consent is required when the account is transferred to a third party. The latter also reserves the right to terminate the contract.
- The separation of software acquisition and right of use would mean for the user that he could acquire the software, but not play the installed game. The coveted rights of use to the game would only be available after registration. The matter is clear to lawyers. The services of the contractual partners are interdependent. This means that there cannot be two individual contracts.
- If further access to the game depends on recurring amounts of money, a separate contract can arise. With the purchase of the software that requires a game account as an access option, a real contractual relationship arises, which requires the game provider to fulfill the obligation to perform.
- The user is therefore not a debtor to the game provider. Rather, it's the other way around. The consequence is that the user is actually allowed to assign or transfer his / her right to use the game to third parties.
If the game provider terminates the user and prevents further use, he may be liable for damages. The user may also be entitled to withdraw from the original contract.
