How to become a rapper
"I really want to be a rapper!" Unfortunately, you do not think this alone. It is the dream of many teenagers and young adults to make their living as rappers. So if you want to become a rapper, you have to do something to stand out from the crowd of rap enthusiasts.
- First of all, practice rapping! Team up with other people who love rap and practice rapping and beatboxing together. Maybe ideas for songs together will develop in the process.
- The most important thing in rapping is to have a sense of rhythm. You either have it or you don't.
- So record your raps and play them to others as well. In this way you can assess with others whether your rape sounds good, whether there is still room for improvement or whether you lack any sense of rhythm.
- If you want to become a rapper, it's not just important to be able to rap well. Your texts are also important. The times when you as a rapper could still attract attention through mere provocation, i.e. stringing together as many swear words and insults as possible, are long gone. Rather, intelligent, funny or political texts are in demand. A rapper should have something to say and convey a message. - Get yourself a cool styling that stands out from the usual styling among rappers. Get yourself a trademark that will recognize you. After all, you want to be remembered.
- Once you have practiced rapping and texting, take part in rap and music contests organized by youth centers, companies or the city, for example. This may be the way the (local) media will notice you and you have taken the first step towards becoming a rapper.
- Get a professional homepage with photos and music tracks.
- Put some songs online, not only on your homepage, but also on music platforms such as YouTube, Myspace or lastfm. This may give you an internet fan base that can also lead to success as a rapper.
- Send a CD of your songs and a flyer with information about yourself to local and regional radio stations and various record labels.
