With Adobe Photoshop almost anything can be done

  • the software has been one of the best-known and best image editing programs for the computer are available. Adobe Photoshop is not exactly cheap, but it offers you a very clear interface and numerous functions.
  • There is almost nothing that you can't do with Photoshop. The extensive functions are of course not all available at first glance and have to be displayed if necessary.
  • You can use Photoshop to create your pictures manipulate, insert or remove layers as well as add effects. For example, if you do not have snow on your own picture, you can insert it into the picture using a simple but very effective snow effect.
  • Basically, you have the choice of inserting the snow effect either manually using a brush or automatically using an existing Photoshop function. The snow effect is also quite simple manually, but looks a lot more professional with the integrated function.

How to get the snow effect in Photoshop

  1. First start the image editing program Adobe Photoshop.
  2. Photoshop - generate smoke

With the help of Photoshop you can easily add smoke to an image afterwards ...

  3. Use the "File" menu and the "Open" option to open any image in which you want to insert a snow effect.
  4. Create a new image layer using the "Layer" menu or the layer window at the bottom right. Then select black as the foreground color in the toolbar, then select the fill tool and fill the new layer with a click of the mouse in the image completely with black color.
  5. The optical snow effect can be found in Photoshop in the menu "Filter" and "Noise filter" resp. "Disturbance filter" in older versions. Select "Add Noise" here.
  6. Now set the strength of the filter to around 60-75%. For distribution you should opt for "Gaussian normal distribution" so that the snow effect does not look too even. It is also very important to check the box for "Monochromatic", otherwise you would get colored snowflakes. Confirm your settings by clicking "OK".
  7. Now it is advisable to use another filter. This time go to "Blur filter" and "Gaussian blur". Set the radius here to at least 1 pixel and confirm the dialog with "OK".
  8. Your snow effect will be more realistic if you use the menu item "Image" - "Corrections" or "Adjust" still apply a "tonal value correction".
  9. A corresponding tonal value spread is displayed here. This looks like a black "mountain" on a white background. Below there are three different controls.
  10. Drag the white slider to the end of the "mountain", move the black slider to the left of it a little more in the middle and the gray slider between the other two sliders. As soon as you like the distribution of the snowflakes, confirm the changes.
  11. The last thing you have to do is place the layer with the snow effect on the previously opened image by selecting the "multiply negative" blending mode in the layer window.
  12. It should then snow on your picture.
  13. Possibly. the snowflakes are still a bit too sharp-edged. In this case you can use the "Gaussian blur" again under "Filter" - "Blur filter" or you can use the "Motion blur" filter. With this you can give the impression of wind.
  14. To do this, set a suitable angle and distance for the movement of the snowflakes and press "OK".
  15. Your picture now has a very realistic snow effect, as if it had actually been taken in winter.
  16. If the snow effect is not intense enough for you, you can repeat the steps shown with additional layers and changed settings, or you can change the snow layer if necessary. scaling it up a bit to make the snowflakes bigger.

Of course, you can also design the snow effect yourself using a brush and paint it directly on a picture. The snowflakes are of course only as good as you have drawn them yourself. Via the filter method of Photoshop In any case, the snow effect works better and you don't see any difference in contrast to a real winter picture.
