Facebook friends online are not shown

If you use the social network Facebook to chat with your friends, it can be annoying if they are not displayed online. Then it is important to find out why.

The largest social network Facebook offers friends all over the world the opportunity to communicate virtually with one another. In addition to the usual exchange of messages, you can pictures show, tell what you are doing, send videos and of course chat. The chat in particular is used a lot by Facebook users. Unfortunately, with its innovations, the network has made some changes to it so that your friends are no longer displayed in chat as online.

  1. If you have logged into Facebook with your login data in the top right corner of the website, the start page will appear first. There you will see the at the bottom right Chat.
  2. When you open the chat, you will see a small selection of all your Facebook friends. Usually only the friends who write to you the most are standing there.
  3. First you must now be displayed online yourself. To do this, click on the little gear in the chat and put a tick in front of 'Available for chat'.
  4. You will now see the friends who are online in the list. These are marked with a green dot.

  5. To see all friends, go to the little arrow to the right of the gear and hide the chat list.
  6. All friends who are really online are now on the left-hand side at the bottom of your Facebook start page.

If you know that certain friends are online but still not showing up, the problem may be elsewhere.

  1. First, refresh the webpage by pressing the F5 key on the keyboard.
  2. If that didn't help, the cause may be due to the new friend lists that Facebook introduced.
  3. Click again on the little gear in the lower right corner of the chat and select 'Limit availability'.
  4. You will now see all of the friend lists you have created, which you can mark with a tick. Directly above you can see the settings as to whether they should be displayed for these lists or not.
  5. Check the settings and change them if necessary.
  6. Also, check whether the friends you don't see as online are on one of the hidden lists.

Once you have checked and changed all settings, you should be able to see all of your Facebook friends online as normal. Good luck with it!
