Remove items with the GIMP
To delete objects, you can use the freeware GIMP, which you can access on both a Windows- or Linux-computer as well as on a Mac.
- To do this, you would first have to download and then install GIMP carry out.
- To edit your picture you either have to start GIMP and import the picture with Ctrl + O (File> Open) or do this by right-clicking on the respective image file by opening the "GIMP" program under "Open with" choose.
- On the left you will find the GIMP toolbox and the fourth tool there, the magic wand. Click on it or press the "U" key.
- Click on a point of the object to have it marked.
- If you now press the Delete key (Edit> Delete), the marked area would be removed and it would be filled in white. If you want a transparent background instead, you would have to click on "Add alpha channel" under "Layer" and "Transparency" before removing it.
- You may have to repeat steps 3 to 5 several times to have all parts of your object removed. Alternatively, you could use the other marking tools such as the lasso (free choice).
- Finally you would have to export as an image file (under "File"), whereby you have to remember that you should use the "PNG" format for a transparent area. Many other image formats such as "JPG" cannot display transparent areas, so that these would be filled with white when saving.
