Send a package to France

Your package is packed and you want to get it on its way to France as soon as possible?

  • It's quick and easy with DHL. You can drop off your parcel directly at Deutsche Post AG and pay the postage there - or, and that is the cheaper alternative, you can use your computer and the Internet. On the website of DHL you can calculate the cost of your shipment and pay online. For a surcharge, you can save yourself the trip to the counter, because you have the option of having your shipment picked up.
  • However, in order to calculate the cost of your package, you need to weigh it. With the cost calculator it is necessary, in addition to the information about the destination, also precise information about the weight and about the dimensions of the shipment - because this is the price at which DHL sends your package to the destination brings. Shipments abroad are (how could it be otherwise) more expensive than shipping within Germany. However, the prices are within reasonable limits.
  • For example, a package weighing up to two kilograms will cost you EUR 8.90 at the post office counter or EUR 8.60 if you pay online. It only gets really expensive if you want express shipping, because then you would pay 78.90 euros for the shipment. And: With express delivery, you have to hand in your package at the counter. By the way: If a package is heavier than 20 kilograms, you will have to forego express delivery. Shipments that are sent "normally" can weigh up to 31.5 kilograms. With such a heavy package, you would have to pay 42 euros (or 40 euros for online payments) postage.
  • In the event that your package cannot be delivered at the destination (country), you should ensure that it is returned to you. To do this, write "En cas de non-remise renvoyer à l'expéditeur" on your consignment (return to the sender if undeliverable). If you don't, you will never see your package again. The return service is free - use it! It is also advisable to note the recipient's telephone number in the address field.

By the way: As far as the delivery time for a "normal" DHL parcel is concerned, it is specified as three working days. Express shipments should reach the recipient on the next working day. Further useful information, for example on liability and shipment tracking, can also be found on the DHL International GmbH website. Read carefully what you should think about - then your parcel will soon arrive at its destination (status: 06/2013).
