Sometimes fate strikes without warning and from one moment to the next people find themselves in an acute emergency situation in which they need the help of others. Even if you hope that it will never happen to you, you are well advised to take precautions for an emergency (English: case of emergency). The so-called ICE number in the phone book of your mobile phone is ideal for this.
ICE stands for "In Case of Emergency"
- The acronym ICE stands for "In Case of Emergency" and describes a specific phone book entry in the cell phone.
- It is international practice to search the cell phones of people in distress for a corresponding phone book entry.
- If there is a corresponding ICE entry, the helping person knows immediately which person is under which Phone number to be informed of the emergency.
How to save the ICE number correctly in your mobile phone
- In the first step, think about which contact you would like to save under your personal in-case-of-emergency number. This can be a family member such as your partner or - especially in the case of people with chronic illnesses - the general practitioner or specialist treating you.
- Create a new contact under the name "ICE" in the phone book of your mobile phone. After the abbreviation ICE you can also enter the name or the function of the person to be informed in an emergency so that the emergency helper knows about this immediately. A correct ICE entry is something like this: "ICE Max Mustermann" or "ICE house doctor Dr. Musterfrau".
- Under this phone book entry you then create the corresponding phone number of the person to be informed. Make sure you use the international country code "+49" as the area code for Germany, so that you can also use it in emergencies foreign countries the person to be informed can be contacted. After this country code, the leading zero in the area code or network code must be omitted. As an example, a Berlin telephone number (Berlin area code: 030) would look like this: "+49 30 123456 ...". The spaces are only used for clarification and should be left out when entering the phone number in the mobile phone.
- You have now correctly created your personal ICE entry in the phone book of your mobile phone. If necessary, you can create another ICE number, for example to include a family member in the flow of information in an emergency in addition to your doctor.
