Writing on an A4 envelope is basically no more difficult than writing on smaller envelopes. However, there are a few basic rules to be observed here as well.

How to correctly label an A4 envelope

In principle, the same requirements apply when writing on an A4-size envelope that should also be met for smaller envelopes. The most important thing here is the correct placement of both the sender and recipient address and the stamps. The mail is processed by machine, so compliance with these requirements is advantageous for successful and rapid dispatch.

  • The A4 envelope is labeled in landscape format on the front, i.e. with the closure flap to the rear. Make sure that you leave 1.5 to 2 cm space at the edges so that the lettering on the envelope can be correctly recognized during the subsequent machine sorting.
  • You should note your name, if necessary that of your company and your address including postcode and city (the latter in one line) in the upper left area. To write They are legible and preferably in block letters. Be careful not to get too far into the middle of the envelope. If possible, this should remain unlabeled.
  • You can apply the postage for franking in the upper right area of ​​the envelope. When sticking the stamps on, you should also observe the minimum distance to the edge.
  • You should label the right-hand area of ​​the A4 envelope either relatively in the middle or further down with the recipient's address and company name (if available). If you use an envelope with a window, you should make sure that the inscription on the inside is clearly visible.
