Your own Twitter account can be deleted relatively easily via the Twitter website. However, Twitter does not delete the account immediately, the data is only permanently removed after a month. You can find out how to delete the account here.

Twitter account deleted - but only after 30 days

If you have the Twitter-Account want to delete immediately, that is not possible.

  • Unfortunately, Twitter does not immediately follow the request to delete your own account. If the account is deleted via the Twitter website, Twitter retains all data for a further 30 days in the event that you change your mind.
  • If you log in to your Twitter account again within this 30-day period, the request for deletion will be rejected and the account will be reactivated.
  • Only when you have actually not logged in to Twitter for 30 days will your data actually be removed.
  • Also keep in mind that any remaining tweets from search engines how Google etc. can be found if they were saved outside of Twitter. Twitter can only remove the data from their own servers.

How to delete the account

  1. First log in to Twitter with the account you want to delete. After logging in, you land on the Twitter start page with your timeline.
  2. In the upper right corner you will now find a menu with your portrait as an icon next to the button for composing a new tweet. Clicking on it opens a context menu from which you can select "Settings".
  3. On the first page "Account" you will find the link "Deactivate my account" at the bottom of the page. A click on it brings you to a final information page. All of the information already mentioned above is reproduced here. Your Twitter account will not actually be deleted until you confirm your request on this page. You will then be logged out automatically.
