Alternative low-carb supplements for your diet
Of course, a mashed potato is without it potatoes no more real mashed potatoes, but these variants should serve as an alternative side dish to this one.
- You can of course also from other vegetables, such as making a side dish puree from chickpeas.
- You can replace the mashed potatoes with a so-called cauliflower puree, which does not contain starch and is therefore ideal for the low-carb diet.
Cauliflower puree as a low-carb side dish
- Heat in a large saucepan waterOnce this is boiling, season with a teaspoon of salt.
- Pluck the cauliflower into lots of small florets and wash them thoroughly with warm water.
- Now put the cauliflower florets in the boiling water and cook them for approx. 15 minutes.
- Strain the cauliflower and transfer it to a large bowl. To make the puree creamier later, you can also save some of the boiling water and use it to dilute the mash.
- Now puree this with a hand blender and add salt, pepper and a little nutmeg to taste. Now give another cup milk and add some butter.

Side dish puree made from celery
- Cut the celery into small pieces and toss them into a pot of boiling salted water. Just like cauliflower, celery is also starch-free and suitable for the low-carb diet.
- Cook the celery for approx. 20 minutes and then pour off the water. Lift approx. half a cup of the water.
- Now puree the celery and add a little of the cooking water to the porridge, depending on the desired consistency.
- Also season the porridge with salt, pepper and nutmeg and a piece of butter. Of course, you can also add a little milk.
