You can go to a sewing machine shop and ask there, there are often operating instructions for old machines, such as the Privilege 480. It won't be easy though, because the machine is a bit older. Otherwise you might find something for the Privilege 480 at flea markets.

• Look at your sewing machine, you will see that there you have the handwheel on the far right. There are other levers on the right-hand side, such as the utility stitch setting lever at the top, the stitch width and stitch position lever. Set the stitch length with the adjusting wheel. There is also a push button on the wheel for reverse sewing. At the very bottom is the recessed feed dog button.

• Correct insertion of the sewing needle on your Privileg 480 is important. Turn the handwheel so that the articulated thread lever is right at the top, then you can clamp the needle with the flat side to the rear using the small adjusting screw. When choosing the needle size, pay attention to the thread and fabric to be processed.

• The threading of the upper thread must be carried out according to the operating instructions, otherwise the machine cannot sew properly. Proceed as follows: Use the handwheel to bring the needle back to the top position, the spool of thread is on the Bracket on the machine, from there feed the thread through the top guides, then down through the two Tension disks. Now pull the thread through the spring and then through the thread sliding bracket. With the take-up lever, it is pulled through from right to left. Now you have to pull the thread through the needle from front to back. Let it protrude about 10 cm, because if you lower the needle, the thread will be too short and slip out again.

• Now you have to take care of the bobbin thread, which is rolled up with the help of a bobbin. First switch off the sewing mechanism by turning the handwheel nut to the left. Hold the handwheel firmly in the process.

• Guide the thread from the thread spool over the pretensioner and wind it onto the spool, which you then insert into the bobbin holder. The machine is now ready to start winding. When the bobbin is full, the process will stop automatically. If you want to stop earlier, you can do this manually.

• You can now place the bobbin in the bobbin opening and pull the thread out to the right. Close the sliding compartment and the sew can start.
