How to build a pillow box out of wood

  1. Before you assemble the pillow box, you should sand down surfaces and cut edges smooth, unless the surface is already smooth.
  2. Now start with the Assemblyby placing the base plate in front of you and drilling evenly spaced holes for the wooden dowels, starting 10 cm from the corners. Determine the positions of the drill holes using dowel fixers and transfer the drill holes to the edges of the side boards as well as the front and rear walls of the pillow box.

  4. The wooden dowels are now inserted into the holes in the base plate with a little wood glue and the side parts - also with a little wood glue - positioned accordingly.
  5. For stabilization, screw the corners, each at the top and bottom, with additional metal corner brackets.
  6. Now carefully turn the box over and screw the plastic feet to the four corners of the chest. The plastic feet protect the chest and upholstery from waterlogging, for example in heavy rain.
  7. Turn the chest over again so that it stands on the plastic feet and screw the hinges onto the chest from the inside first. You will find the optimal position for the hinges if you halve the length of the back wall in the head and then place the hinges in the middle. If the hinges are screwed to the box, they still have to be connected to the box lid with a perfect fit.
  8. The pillow box itself is already finished, but should be waterproofed to protect it from rain. You can apply a wood protection glaze for this or paint the box completely and make it decorative. Finally, a protective layer on the inside and outside with clear varnish is recommended.
  9. As soon as the paint is completely dry, you can use your pillow box.

Small suggestion: A couple of pillows turn your new pillow box into an additional seat for the next barbecue party.
