Romping around in the water to your heart's content - that's part of a successful summer! But it's only really fun when you can swim. The exams for the swimming badges can be taken in a certain order: by children and young people, but also by adults.

Seahorse swimming badge for "running meters"

  • The earlier children learn to swim, the easier it is. In many cases, parents already go to the swimming pool with their babies. The kids enjoy that swim very and later on they are not afraid of water in the great outdoors.
  • In the public swimming pools, swimming courses of all kinds are offered for little money. But also with the German lifesaving society (DLRG) you can register your child for the seahorse and all of the following badges. The water rescue service (part of the Red Cross) also offers swimming courses for all age groups.
  • The very first swimming test for "little" people is the seahorse. In order to get the coveted seahorse, the child has to jump into the water from the edge of the pool, swim 25 meters and pull an object up from shoulder-deep water. The little ones are always "proud like the Spaniards" when they have passed their seahorses.

Order of the youth swimming badges

  • The German youth swimming badge bronze then requires a little more: Your child has to jump from the edge of the pool into the water, 200 m swim in a maximum of 15 minutes, pick up an object from a depth of 2 m, jump from the one-meter board and know the rules for bathing.
  • It gets even more difficult for the silver badge: Jump into the water and swim 400 m in a maximum of 25 minutes. Of these, 100 m must be on the move can be covered by swimming. An object has to be brought up twice from a depth of 2 meters. You have to dive a distance of 10 m at a time and your child has to jump off the three-meter board.

  • A minimum age of 9 years is required for the German youth swimming badge in gold. This is not surprising either, because what is required is "not without": 600 m swim in a maximum of 24 minutes, 50 m breaststroke in 70 Seconds, 50 m crawl swimming, 50 m backstroke or backstroke swimming, 15 m diving in one piece, 3 small diving rings from 15 m Bring up the water depth in a maximum of 3 minutes with a maximum of 3 attempts - and a jump from a height of 3 m is a must for the little one also afford. And then there are the rescue activities: 50 m transport swimming and proof that the appropriate knowledge is available to help with swimming accidents, boat accidents and ice accidents. That is a whole lot of knowledge and skill that is required here!
  • If your child has completed the silver badge and is at least 8 years old, they can also get the German snorkel badge. In any case, it is good for the holidays if you know that the children are well equipped for all kinds of activities water sports are. For this qualification, all skills and basic knowledge about snorkeling are tested.

 Swimming badges for adults (from 18 years)

  • You will receive the bronze badge after swimming 200 m in less than 7 minutes from a height of 1 m have jumped into the water or made a starting jump into the water and also the bathing rules know.

Competitive swimmers and lifeguards

  • For active work in water rescue, you need a qualification as a lifeguard. Lifeguard badges are assigned in the order junior rescuers (from 10 years), lifeguards Bronze (minimum age 12 years), silver (minimum age 15 years) and gold (minimum age 16 years) forgive.
