Difference between elk and deer

Both animals have antlers and usually live in the wild. We are talking about a deer and an elk, which laypeople often confuse with one another. Hence the legitimate question of the difference.

What these animals have in common

Note that both animals are mammals and that they are both cloven-hoofed animals. Basically, both belong to the deer group.
