  3. Now open the mandrel, the shaft must disengage from the mandrel.
  4. Loosen the running plate and the pressure washer.
  5. Now you can take the cutting tool out of the holder.

How to sharpen the grass cutting blade of the Stihl FS 87

  1. It is best to clamp the knife in a vice.
  2. Clean the part so that you can immediately check whether the knife is badly damaged and may need to be replaced with a new one.
  3. Now apply the angle grinder at a 45-degree angle, try to maintain this position so that the knife of the Stihl FS 87 has an even grind. Remember to wear protective goggles when grinding with the angle grinder, otherwise metal splinters could get into your eyes.
  4. You may only sharpen the knife from one side, never from both sides. Only the front of the knife may be sharpened.

Here's how to reinstall the cutting tool

  1. Put the grass cutting tool back into the pressure plate
  2. Then tighten the mandrel again. You have to turn until the shaft audibly clicks into place.
  3. Now the running plate comes on the knife and the shaft.
  4. Then everything just has to be screwed tight.
  5. Finally, check that everything is really tight and screwed tight.
