  • The dishwasher washes at significantly higher temperatures than you are used to doing by hand. The temperatures of the dishwasher depend on the washing program. In a washing program with a shorter running time, the temperature comes to approx. 50 to 70 degrees. If the rinsing process is longer, the temperature will reach approximately 60 to 85 degrees.
  • In addition, the dishwasher is a functional device, which is why limescale residues can also arise here. If the water hardness is too high, the pipes or the elements that are responsible for heating can scale up.
  • When washing by hand, water is not as hot as it is in a dishwasher. In addition, the water (even if the water hardness is too high) goes directly into the Drain and therefore cannot cause any damage, as is the case with the dishwasher. Which is why a dishwasher always needs the addition of salt.

How a dishwasher works and why salt is needed

  • The first thing during the washing process is the water running through a hose into the dishwasher. Then the water flows past a wheel that regulates the amount of water. Then the water is softened, which is why the salt is required for a dishwasher.
  • Next, the water is directed to the bottom of the dishwasher. Here is a "pot" that heats the water.

  • The water is then pumped up and delivered to the spray arms. From there the water is distributed to the dishes.

  • The third process uses rinse aid (provided you put it in the dishwasher). This is distributed on the dishes and removes the last traces of the cleaning stick and ensures a beautiful shine on glasses.
  • In the last part of the washing process, the dishes are dried at a high temperature.

The use of salt is also important as it will avoid unwanted limescale stains on your dishes.
