You should bear this in mind when buying tickets on the train
- Under normal circumstances, it is not possible to buy a ticket on regional trains operated by Deutsche Bahn. Regional trains of Deutsche Bahn are Regional Express (RE) and Regionalbahnen (RB). - In most cases, a fine of at least 40 euros is imposed. However, there is one exception: Are all ticket machines at your boarding station defective and still exist? - On Deutsche Bahn long-distance trains, it is quite possible and common to only purchase tickets on the train. Long-distance trains include trains with the names ICE (Intercity-Express), EC (Eurocity-Express) and IC (Intercity-Express).
- However, tickets are sold on the train at the so-called "board price". This is the regular ticket price with an additional surcharge. In addition, certain special offers are not available there. You can pay in cash or by credit card. However, it is usually still advisable to visit the responsible staff relatively quickly so that you are not suspected of driving illegally.
