You have found your new favorite vintage chest of drawers and would like to give it a shabby chic look. For the shabby chic effect, the new layer of paint must be applied in such a way that it looks "old". This can be done most authentically with acrylic and crackling varnish. In total, four coats of paint are required for the "paint crack effect".

1. Remove old paint and paint residue from the dresser. To do this, apply stain evenly with a brush. Let the stain take effect and remove the paint with a spatula.
2. Then clean the dresser with a piece of coarse and then fine sandpaper. The chest of drawers now stands in front of you without any color.

3. After the old paint residue has been completely removed, a thin layer of acrylic varnish is applied. Let this first coat of paint dry out thoroughly before you put your hand on the dresser again.
4. The second layer of paint to be applied is the crackling varnish. Brush this layer of paint onto the fully dried undercoat. Leave the crackling varnish for about 60 minutes. dry until it is still slightly sticky. This color is also called tear varnish and has the special property of allowing the third layer of varnish to "tear open".

5. The third layer of paint is applied to this surface. Depending on whether you prefer coarse or fine cracks, apply another layer of acrylic varnish. A thick layer of paint results in rough cracks, a thin layer of paint results in fine cracks. It becomes especially nice if you always turn the color on in one direction. The cracks also get a line and direction. The effect is visible immediately after applying the second acrylic layer.
6. If desired, the surface can of course also be sealed. For this purpose, a layer of sealing spray is applied after the completely dried layers of paint.
