  1. Remove the outer leaves from the fresh Brussels sprouts. The easiest way to do this is to cut off a piece of the base of the stem so that the outer leaves separate on their own.
  2. Put the peeled Brussels sprouts in a saucepan with enough waterso that the florets can swim in it, and add a teaspoon of salt.
  3. Bring the water to a boil, then turn the hob down. Depending on the size of the florets, the vegetables take about 15 minutes to cook. You can check whether the vegetables are soft enough for you by pricking the base of the stem with a knife.
  4. A little nutmeg is very good for seasoning the fresh Brussels sprouts. The best way to do this is to use a whole nutmeg that you grate fresh, because it has a lot more flavor than a canned nutmeg that has been grated.
