If your electricity provider would like to increase the electricity price, but you do not want to accept it, you can make use of the special statutory right of termination.

  • The notice period is four weeks before the electricity price increase occurs. If the electricity price increase occurs, for example, on 1.1. you must have given notice by November 30th at the latest so that the notice period of four weeks is met.
  • You should always write the letter of termination in writing and send it by post. It would be safest if you send the letter by registered mail.
  • Also note your meter number, meter reading and contract number in your cancellation letter. With this data, the termination nothing go wrong.
  • It would still be safe if you mention in the letter that you are making use of your statutory special right of termination due to the increase in electricity prices. Also mention the date on which you are canceling.
