Sending letters to the USA - information
Do you want to send letters or postcards to the USA? Swiss Post offers you a delivery service - internationally. In addition, the inexpensive and fast shipping to the target country is convincing.
Before you post your items, you should be familiar with the general terms and conditions of Swiss Post. We recommend using the "Priority" sticker so that your letters or postcards leave the country quickly. You can get this at a post office or by downloading it from the Internet.
If you send your letter with the airmail sticker, allow for a shipping time of three to seven working days. Without this sticker, shipping takes about 30 to 40 days. Swiss Post continues to offer you express delivery. For a surcharge of EUR 4.50, your letters will reach the destination country even faster.
Label your letter correctly so that it arrives in the United States without complications. Please note the requirements of the Post. Correct franking with the postage stamp is also important. Stick the stamp in the upper right corner. Put the airmail sticker to the left of it.
How to properly label your letter
- Measure the edge. Measure 1.5 centimeters from the left, right and bottom edges and four centimeters from the top edge.
- Write address. Write the recipient's address in large print in the center of the letter. Write down the first and last name, house number or apartment number and street name of the recipient.
- add location. Add the state, city, zip code, and USA.

Label the envelope with the same font, size and line spacing. Pay attention to a light background and a dark lettering - a white envelope with black lettering is best. Stickers resembling a postage stamp should not be placed on the envelope.
Postage for the letter to the United States
The costs for international shipping are 0.80 euros for a letter or postcard up to 20 grams. You pay 1.50 euros for a compact letter. Note that prices vary depending on the weight.
If you send goods internationally, costs start at EUR 3.45 for a large letter and up to EUR 17.00 for a maxi letter. Please note the customs regulations when shipping goods. Print out a shipping label or use the Post offer.
