Use the group ticket on the train
Traveling by train is generally not considered cheap, but you can save a lot if you travel with a group. You just have to know which group tickets are available from the Deutsche Bahn and how to use them.
Gruppe und Spar - the group card
- With "Gruppe & Spar" you save up to 70% per person compared to a single trip.
- Children (6 to 14 years of age) pay 50% of the reduced fare. 2 children count as 1 adult. If you want to use the reduced price, but are only 5 people, you can definitely pay for 6 in order to be able to use the inexpensive group ticket of the railway. Children under the age of 6 do not pay anything for transportation.
- You can use the group card “Gruppe & Spar” for a single journey as well as for a return journey on the train.
- If you would like to travel in an IC or ICE, you can only purchase a train connection. This means that the ticket is usually only valid for the connection booked. There is no specific train connection on regional trains, however, a registration is required for groups of 21 or more people.
The railway's “Nice Weekend Ticket”
- The "Happy Weekend Ticket" is intended for single travelers or up to 5 people traveling together. Children from 6 to 14 years of age count as 1 person.
- The “Nice Weekend Ticket” is only valid on local trains. The name of the person who has traveled the longest must be indelibly marked on the ticket.
- The group card is valid on the day stated on the ticket as the day of validity, from midnight to 3:00 a.m. the following day.
