The John Deere GX 75 is a comfortable ride-on lawn mower. In the course of time, however, a certain amount of wear and tear on the mower blade also occurs. Then you should definitely replace it. You don't necessarily need to go to a workshop to do this.

You can of course sharpen the mower knife on your John Deere GX 75 several times. But it gets a little narrower. There are wear marks on the knife. As soon as the knife is worn down to these marks, you have to replace it. Otherwise it could break while mowing.

Remove the mower from the John Deere GX 75

  1. You should first park your John Deere GX 75 ride-on mower in a location that is as level as possible. Then lower the mower deck until it is in its lowest position.
  2. Then loosen the cotter pins of the mower suspension. Sometimes these are very stuck. In this case you should use combination pliers.
  3. After you have removed all split pins, you can dismantle the suspensions. To do this, it is usually necessary to lift the mower a little with one hand.

How to replace the knife

  1. After you have removed the mower from your John Deere GX 75, you should place it upright against a wall. This gives you access to the mower knife.
  2. You can loosen the knife's fastening screw with an 18 mm ring spanner. You have to hold the knife with your other hand.
  3. After loosening the nut, you can remove the washer and knife from the shaft.
  4. When assembling the new mower blade, make sure that you attach it the right way round. The wind blades must always point upwards. It is advisable to put a drop of oil on the thread. You should tighten the knife with a torque of approximately 75 Nm.
  5. Finally, you need to reassemble the mower on your riding lawn mower.

You must be very careful when working on the mower blade. You can easily injure yourself on the sharp cutting surfaces. That is why it makes sense to wear sturdy work gloves when working.
