GEZ exemption - this must generally be taken into account

In any case, as a pensioner, you must submit an application to the GEZ in order to obtain the possible exemption. It does not happen automatically.

  • You must attach the current approval notification from the issuing authority in the original or as a certified copy to the application. submit. You can also have a certificate issued by this authority for submission to the GEZ. It is essential that you mark original documents as "original" so that you can get them back.   • Your application must be dated and signed. It is therefore not possible to submit it by fax or email. All you can do is fill it out online, print it out and then send it to you.
  • The following documents no longer have to be submitted: pension notification, housing benefit notification, Notification of unemployment benefit, notification of care allowance from the health insurance company, other proof of income, Rental agreement and bank statements.

  • If you are a pensioner and are getting help with living expenses, you can get a GEZ exemption. Prerequisite: entitlement according to the Social Security Code (3. Cape. SGB ​​XII from §§27) or the Federal Supply Act (BVG §27) and a corresponding valid notification about it.
  • A GEZ exemption can also take place if you receive basic security for your pension (4th Cape. SGB ​​XII, §§41-46) and have received a corresponding notification of approval.
  • If you as a pensioner z. B. Housing benefit and benefits for heating (SGB II, §22 or §28) are granted, you can also apply for GEZ exemption. The notification of approval for the receipt of social allowance must be submitted.
  • Pensioners with a valid severely handicapped ID with the addition "RF" can apply for the GEZ exemption. A copy of the severely handicapped ID card and the original of the notification of the "RF" classification are also valid. This applies to blind and permanently visually impaired people as well as to deaf people and people with very severely impaired hearing. People who have a permanent degree of disability (GdB) of 80% and more and who have the addition "RF" in their severely handicapped pass can also apply for the GEZ exemption.
  • If you are a pensioner, get care help (acc. 7. Cape. SGB ​​XII, Sections 61-66 or according to Section 26c on Welfare for War Victims), you also meet the requirements for approval of the GEZ exemption.
  • For pensioners who live in a nursing home, retirement home or another facility and are supported with corresponding cash contributions, the GEZ exemption can also be applied for.
  • Pensioners who receive benefits from the Asylum Seekers Benefits Act (AsylblG) can also apply for the GEZ exemption upon submission of the corresponding notification of approval.

Then the GEZ exemption is not possible

  • Just because you as a retiree receive a very low pension and generally have a very low income, you will not be granted an exemption granted from the broadcasting fees (State Treaty on Broadcasting in United Germany of August 31, 1991 in the version of the amendment in the RGebStV of 01.04.2005).
  • You as a pensioner will also not be granted an exemption from the GEZ if the notices you have to submit have expired or are no longer up-to-date or do not meet the required requirements.
  • Simple copies of the documents do not count as evidence at the GEZ. They must be confirmed by the issuing authority or issued directly for submission to the GEZ.
