1. If you want you to be generally displayed online, i.e. for all friends on Facebook, then go to the start page and click on the gray bar labeled "Chat".

1. Go to "Chat" in the lower right corner of the start page and select "Advanced Settings".
2. A small window will appear. Here you have the option of choosing who you do not want to be displayed online for, or who can see you. The first point is about who shouldn't see you. Highlight this point and then select specific lists or people for whom you want to be offline. You remain visible to all other friends.
3. If you want to be offline for everyone, but not for a few specific people, check this second point in the window and enter in the input line for whom you would like to remain visible want. Here, too, individual names or entire lists can be inserted.
4. The third point in this window is the offline mode, which, as already described above, ensures that you are no longer displayed as online for anyone.

With these numerous setting options, it is always possible that one friend can see you and the other cannot. So you can be online in peace without being constantly approached by friends with whom you may not want to talk at the moment.
