Laying a carpet or stair runner on the stairs is not just for visual reasons. The soft, non-slip surface prevents falls and also ensures a reduction in noise.

What you need:

  • box cutter
  • Carpeting
  • double-sided tape
  • Carpet glue

Measure and cut the carpet

  • Unsightly stone stairs or older wooden steps can be upgraded with a soft carpet. However, it is crucial that you get the right one Flooring Select. It should be hard-wearing, and you should be able to bend it slightly so that it can be processed more easily.
  • If your staircase is warped or has unusual dimensions, you should make templates. This procedure is also recommended for semicircular steps. To do this, measure the step and then transfer the measurements to a sturdy piece of cardboard. Now place the template on the carpet, which you cut to size with the carpet knife.
  • Do you already have some experience laying carpet on the stairs, it is sufficient to roughly cut it to the dimensions of the steps and risers. Please note, however, that the length of the step surface must be extended so that the carpet can be laid under the edge.

Lay and fix carpeting on the stairs

Instead of having the carpets laid on the stairs by craftsmen, you can easily do this yourself.

  1. First, decide whether you want to work top-down or start at the bottom of the stairs. Now glue the step surface with glue, then the underside of the carpet is also coated with glue. Alternatively, you can use strong double-sided tape. You glue this on the stairs themselves.
  2. Laying laminate on stairs - this is how it works

If you want to lay laminate on stairs, check whether the sub-floor is still ...

  3. After the glue has dried, place the piece of carpet on the tread, making sure that the pile runs downwards. Press the rug down firmly and fold the end around the edge of the stairs, then press the rug down again. You must also fix very stiff carpeting on the underside of the edge with nails. Then place the roughly pre-cut piece on the riser and press firmly again. Use this principle for the entire staircase.
  4. Instead of carpeting, you can also use stair runners that only cover part of the step. You can also attach these to the stairs with tape or contact adhesive. Finally, attach the finishing edges - on the one hand, these protect the carpet and ensure a uniform appearance.

Select the carpeting for the stairs so that it creates a harmonious overall picture with the interior. Your guests will also like the stairs.
